Charles City’s Alexis Williams leaped 34’5” in the girls’ triple jump to claim third at the Pat Covas Invitational track meet on Jan. 20 in Hampton. Williams’ distance has qualified her automatically into the Group 1A/2A indoor state championship track meet to be held at Roanoke College on Feb. 28-29.

New Kent High School swim team wins quad meet at Goochland

New Kent High School’s swim emerged as the winner in a quad meet held at Goochland YMCA on Jan. 18. The team defeated Goochland (175-145), Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot (262-13), and The New Community School (248-38). Individual winners on the boys’ side are Kevin Kurek (200-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly), Logan Atkins (200-meter intermediate, 100-meter butterfly), Gavin Wetherington (50-meter freestyle, 500-meter freestyle), Ian Durkee (100-meter backstroke), and Adam Gray (100-meter breaststroke).
