New Kent girls place third, boys fourth at Bay Rivers District home track meet

New Kent’s Lady Trojan track team claimed the long jump and triple jump events on their way to a third-place finish at its Apr. 17 Bay Rivers District home meet. Sacara Bey leaped to a career best 16’1” in the girls’ long jump, securing the top spot in the event. Teammate Raven Harris also accomplished a career best, notching her mark in the girls’ triple jump with a distance of 36’2” to win the event. Questionable calls haunt New Kent, Poquoson escapes with overtime win

Usually coaches try to hold their tongues when it comes to bad referee calls. Unfortunately, a questionable call very early into an Apr. 18 soccer match pitting New Kent against Poquoson swung the tide of the game. The invading Islanders and homestanding Trojans battled through regulation and two overtimes, before Poquoson’s late goal propelled them to a 2-1 victory in the Bay Rivers District clash. Charles City girls, boys claim fourth at home track meet

Charles City’s Lady Panthers garnered individual wins from Aysia Wallace and Alexis Williams on their way to a fourth-place finish at their Apr. 18 home track meet. Wallace accumulated a time of 1:08.70 in the girls’ 400-meter dash, winning the event and earning an automatic berth in the 1A Region A meet in May. Williams claimed the gold in the girls’ long jump, leaping 14’5½” for the win, while also auto-qualifying in the girls’ 100-meter dash for regional competition with a time of 13.64. Figuring out which New Kent Trojan baseball team will show up on the field is sort of like a magic eight-ball: You shake and hope that the outcome falls in your favor. Unfortunately for the hosting Trojans, a flat performance after two straight wins resulted in New Kent’s downfall, this time to Poquoson’s Islanders 10-0 in an Apr. 16 Bay Rivers affair. Clements notches four goals as Lady Trojans cruise to 10-0 victory

The old adage says, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” For New Kent’s Lady Trojans Monday night, they used a combination on both to throttle the visiting Bruton Lady Panthers. Four goals by New Kent’s Taylor Clements were more than enough as hosts cruised to a 10-0 beatdown in the Bay Rivers’ affair. Clements scored her first goal less than two minutes into the contest.
