Poquoson spoils Lady Trojans Senior Night celebration

New Kent’s Lady Trojans knew they faced an uphill battle during the Oct. 19 Senior Night contest against the visiting Poquoson Lady Trojans. And despite playing hard through the contest, the effort didn’t produce any scores for the hosts. Poquoson outgunned the Lady Trojans, finding the back of the net four times in the first half and cruising to a 6-0 win that saw the contest end via the mercy rule. New Kent’s Lady Trojans seemed to be the overwhelming favorite in Tuesday night’s matchup against the Lafayette Lady Rams. However, the visitors were game in challenging New Kent for most of the night. But the Lady Trojans survived the contest, posting a 25-13, 16-25, 25-12, 25-21 victory in a strange but entertaining contest. New Kent’s Trojans invited Lafayette’s Rams to their home field Monday night for football action after Tropical Storm Michael forced a rescheduling of the contest. To New Kent, the game felt more like a full-fledged hurricane imposed by the visitors’ power and flexing their muscles. Playing in a postponed football game from Sept. 14, New Kent’s Trojans traveled to Bruton to take on a rebuilding Panthers team during a Tuesday night contest. However, a more-inspiring story blossomed from the contest. Juan Mikel Jones, a junior for New Kent, returned to the gridiron for the first time after receiving a heart transplant earlier this year. New Kent High School’s golf team shot 327 to finish third at the Group 3A State Championship contest Monday afternoon at Williamsburg National Golf Course. Robb Kinder shot an even-par 72 on the course, finishing fourth overall. Teammate Kyle Peck also finished in the top ten, posting a score of 79. Homecoming 2018 for the New Kent Trojans was not a question on if they would win, but how they could grow before getting into the meat of their Bay Rivers District schedule. Friday night’s encounter with a Grafton Clippers team that had been outscored 112-13 through the course of four games allowed the hosts to gel and bond the team’s chemistry. New Kent’s Lady Trojans entered the Oct. 4 contest against Poquoson riding a two-game win streak. And after falling in straight sets in the earlier encounter a month ago, home court advantage proved favorable for the Lady Trojans. That was the case on Oct. 3 inside of the Ed Allen Complex at New Kent High School York’s Lady Falcons lived up to their 12-1 record, defeating the hosting New Kent Lady Trojans 3-0 in what was a lopsided affair. Kinder leads New Kent to fourth straight 3A Regional golf championship

Led by Rob Kinder, New Kent’s golf team coasted to its fourth straight 3A Regional Golf Championships on Sept. 25 at Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg. Kinder outclassed all of his competitors, emerging as the only golfer to shoot under par by notching a 67 (par 72). He finished seven strokes better than runner-up Jackson Mosely of Park View-South Hill. As a team, the Trojans shot 312, finishing 24 strokes ahead of runner-up Park View.
