Emana, Dagenhart land on All-Conference 25/26 field hockey first team
New Kent senior forward Samantha Emana and senior defender Chandler Dagenhart are first team selections on the Conference 25/26 field hockey team. A pair of Lady Trojans, senior defender Clenisteen Lloyd and junior midfielder Peyton Slater, have been named to the second team. Junior Hannah Gilland and sophomore Jennifer Critz received honorable mention.
Defense, subs keep New Kent in game, but Poquoson escapes 16-14
Early in the second quarter, Poquoson’s Islanders owned a two touchdown lead and appeared well on their way to a blowout victory over New Kent’s Trojans. Instead, the home-standing Trojans, behind a pair of reserve running backs and a staunch defense, refused to allow the visitors to pull away. Seniors do the scoring as Panthers rout Mathews 56-6 in home finale
During the week of practice, Charles City head football coach Steward Greene reminded his team of the previous two meetings against the invading Mathews Blue Devils. “Two years ago they came in here winless and beat us,” Greene told his team. “Last year, we beat them at their place and knocked them out of the playoffs. Second straight marathon volleyball match fails to bounce New Kent’s way
Losing the first two sets in best-of-five competition isn’t a customary winning formula for New Kent’s Lady Trojans or, for that matter, any other volleyball team. But that scenario played out for New Kent this week— not once, but twice. Tuesday night, the Lady Trojans bounced back from a 2-0 deficit to sweep three straight sets in vanquishing Poquoson’s visiting Islanders. Lady Trojans capture Conference 25 cross-country crown; Trojan boys take second
Led by Jackie Clardy-Joseph and Natasha Lange, New Kent’s Lady Trojans raced to the Conference 25 cross-country title Tuesday afternoon over the 3.1-mile William & Mary course. Clardy-Joseph and Lange finished one-two with respective times of 21:23.84 and 22:25.21 to highlight New Kent’s 43-48 win over runner-up Warhill. Poquoson (65) placed third followed by Southampton (90) and Park View (126). Maggie Jarvis took fifth place for the victors in 23:07.84.
