Charles City’s Panthers had little trouble disposing of the King & Queen Tigers in an Oct. 21 football clash. Mason Jefferson scored three touchdowns while teammates Kyle Jones and Craig Jones added two apiece as the hosts Panthers rolled to a 68-0 thumping of the Tigers. New Kent golf finishes fourth at state championships

New Kent High School’s golf team earned a fourth place finish in the Group 3A State Championships held at Stonehouse Golf Course in Toano on Oct. 10-11. The Trojans compiled a total score of 660 over the two-day tournament, finishing behind eventual winner Blacksburg (611), runner-up Hidden Valley (614), and third place finisher Riverside (633). Cole Baldwin paced the Trojans with a score of 154. Robb Kinder (159), Ted Gentile (166), and Kyle Peck (186) occupied the other three scoring spots for New Kent, while Slater Gammon (188) and Jake Richards (196) also participated in the match.

Stellar New Kent defense, late offensive surge falls short in upset bid

New Kent’s defense answered all but one Lafayette challenge during Monday night’s field hockey encounter. After suffering three consecutive defeats by eight points or less, Charles City’s Panthers looked to its annual homecoming contest to remedy the setbacks. Apparently they found the right medicine Friday night. Mason Jefferson accounted for five total touchdowns while teammate Cecil Tyler added two on the ground as the host Panthers walloped the visiting Middlesex Chargers 60-23, snapping a four-game skid and keeping their playoff hopes alive. New Kent’s Lady Trojans shook off a dismal performance earlier this season at Grafton to mount a serious challenge for the powerful Clippers (14-3) in Tuesday’s volleyball rematch on New Kent’s floor. Early and often during their football clash with Jamestown’s winless Eagles, New Kent’s host Trojans fell on the self-destruct button. Lost fumbles, shoddy tackling, and costly penalties led to 15 unanswered Eagle points in the first half.
