Goodlet, Jones, boys 4×100 earn bronze for NK at state meet
Adrianne Goodlet and Daysa Jones earned third place finishes in their respective events, as the Lady Trojans of New Kent finished 15th at the Group 3A State Track and Field championships at Harrisonburg High School. Goodlet ran a time of 12.78 in the girls’ 100 meter dash and Daysa Jones cleared 10’0” in the pole vault to earn bronze medals in the events. Goodlet added a sixth place finish in the girls 400 meter dash (59.79), and teamed with Jones, Abby Spangler, and Kayla Davis for a sixth place finish in the girls 4×100 meter relay with a season best…

Trojans fall flat in Conference 25 baseball title game
Soaring high after toppling top-seeded Lafayette, New Kent’s Trojans cruised into Friday night’s Conference 25 baseball tournament championship with momentum appearing to be on their side. Poquoson’s Islanders, however, quickly brought the Trojans back down to Earth. In a game during which little if anything went the Trojans’ way, the Islanders dominated on the way to a 9-2 victory on York High’s field. Warhill silences Lady Trojan bats in 5-1 win
New Kent Lady Trojan softball coach Nicole O’Bier said it best: “You can’t do much when you can’t hit.” And that statement defined her team’s performance Tuesday when they entertained Warhill’s Lions. The visitors smacked 14 hits to only three for the Lady Trojans. In the end, the Lions walked away with a 5-1 victory. Five-point shortfall leads to third place finish for Panthers in Conference 42 championship meet
Charles City boys’ track team did all they could, but fell short by five points in claiming the Conference 42 Track & Field Championships, settling for third at the May 21 home contest. The Panthers put together a 112 point effort at the meet, finishing five points behind meet winner Middlesex’s 117 points, and one point behind Mathews’ 113 points for second place. New Kent’s Trojan track and field team finished second while the Lady Trojans claimed third in the May 19 Conference 25 championships at New Kent. The boys scored 90 points, trailing only Lafayette’s 139. York placed third with 70 followed by Warhill and Poquoson (67), Park View (58), Southampton (30), and Colonial Heights (5). LaPrade qualifies for nat’l tourney
Brian LaPrade, a junior at New Kent High School, won both the Greco and Freestyle wrestling state championships at Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond on May 20. LaPrade is the only athlete to win any championship for five consecutive years, starting his career in sixth grade. The victory is the junior’s third Virginia title this year. LaPade also won the 13- pound division at VHSL’s Group 3A state wrestling championships this past winter. New Kent’s Lady Trojans used Thursday’s regular season ending, twin-bill sweep of Bruton’s Panthers to catapult into next Monday’s quarterfinal round in conference softball tournament play. The hosts capitalized on Marisa Bush’s no-hit, 14 strike out performance in game one for a 3-0 triumph. Then in game two, Bush allowed only two hits in a 4-2 win. Charles City’s Tyler Allen finished tied for first in the triple jump and anchored the boys’ 4×400 meter relay team as the Panthers finished second at their May 15 regular season track finale against King & Queen, Lancaster, and Thomas Jefferson.
