Domonic Baker, a 2022 graduate of New Kent High School, has qualified for the NCAA National Wrestling tournament. Baker currently competes for Campbell University in North Carolina.
Charles City’s Lady Panthers Indoor Track & Field team scored 4.25 points to finish in 27th place at the Group 1A/2A State Track & Field Championships held Feb. 28-29 at Liberty University. The girls’ 4×200 relay team of Jaida Braxton, Taniyah Williams, Jaela Smith, and Derequa Johnson ran a time of 1:53.86 to finish seventh in the event. Johnson also finished seventh in the girls’ 55-meter hurdles (9.70) and eighth in the girls’ high jump (4’8”). Other results (CC only): Girls: 55 dash- 11. Johnson 7.71. Long Jump- 20. Johnson 15’2”. New Kent High School Senior Isaac Lamprecht captured a gold medal at the Group 3A State Indoor Championships held Feb. 26-27 at Liberty University. Lamprecht won the boys’ 3200-meter run, clocking a time of 9:17.40 to emerge victorious in the field. Teammate Ryan Wright also found a spot on the podium, finishing third in the boys’ pole vault with a clearance of 14’0”. New Kent scored 16 points, good enough to finish 13th at the state championship competition. Western Albermarle won the competition with 52 points.
