New Kent High School’s Golf team finished tied for fourth place at the Group 3A State Championships held Oct. 11 at Stonehenge Golf and Country Club in Richmond. Brett Ferry led the way for the Trojans, finishing in eleventh place with a score of 78. Teammate Dillon Mickles finished one stroke behind him with a 79, good enough for a tie for twelfth place. Charles City High School’s football team took the field in a rare Monday night game after the original contest was postponed due to the death of a classmate. And while emotions ran high as they faced off against John Marshall for the first time, emotions couldn’t help the Panthers down the stretch of the contest. The visiting Justices kept Charles City scoreless in the second half and rallied for a 20-14 win Monday night, marking the first win for the visitors since 2019. New Kent High School’s Golf Team captured the 3A Regional Championship on Sept. 27 with a team score of 305, winning by seven strokes over York. The team was led by Brent Ferry (2nd-74), Dillon Mickles (3rd-74), and Kyle Diggs (5th-77). Other team members participating were Robert Edwards (80), Palmer Douglas (82), and Charlie Schwarz (97). The team will now advance to the state golf championship on Oct. 11 at Stonehenge Golf & Country Club in Richmond.
Overcoming a lot of physical play and capitalizing off penalty corners, New Kent’s Lady Trojans defeated the visiting Lafayette Rams 2-0 in a Sept. 22 field hockey contest. Lamprecht crossed the line in 16:40, edging Grafton’s Connor Linehan who finished two seconds behind.
