New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team has kept the excitement since opening day of the Spring 2022 season. They closed the regular season Friday evening with the same energy. Overcoming some of the most adversity they faced all year, the Lady Trojans outlasted the visiting Smithfield Lady Packers 6-5, capturing the Bay Rivers District regular season championship once again. With a team loaded with members of the Class of 2022, New Kent’s baseball squad went through the struggles of hiccups early in their high school careers. Friday night showed that sticking with each other along with improvement can result in great achievements. New Kent’s Trojans toppled the Smithfield Packers 6-2 in Friday afternoon’s baseball contest, capturing the Bay Rivers District regular season championship on Senior Night. Trio of Lady Panthers lead Charles City’s charge to third place finish at district track meet
If the May 19 Tidewater District track meet was an indication for the future, Charles City’s Lady Panthers Track and Field team could be a threat to competition next year. Behind the performance from juniors Nevaeh Coney, Janiya Washington, and Surayyah Tinsley, the trio of Lady Panthers powered Charles City to a third-place finish overall among seven teams on their home track. Coney emerged victorious in the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.63, while teammate Washington finished right behind her at 1:09.76. Warhill uses two late goals to spoil Senior Night for Lady Trojans
After a fast start to the season, New Kent’s Lady Trojans have struggled in the final games of the season on the pitch. On Monday night, too many lapses on brought the Lady Trojans’ sent the hosts back into the wrong column. The visiting Warhill Lady Lions spoiled Senior Night for the hosts, taking down New Kent 3-1 in the Bay Rivers District contest. Both teams’ physical presence made for a back-and-forth game for the first 15 minutes of the contest. New Kent falls behind early, can’t catch up to Tabb in boys’ soccer match
Pulling off an upset in any sport requires preparation, determination, and a little bit of luck. Unfortunately for New Kent’s boys’ soccer team, a May 11 visit from highly ranked Tabb proved that getting all three can be difficult. Tabb’s visiting Tigers jumped out to an early lead before withstanding a late Trojans’ charge in clinching a 6-2 victory. New Kent’s dismal first half factored into an early deficit.
