Charles City girls, boys place fourth in home track competition

Charles City’s girls’ and boys’ track and field teams both accumulated fourth place finishes at their May 5 home meet featuring seven teams. In boys’ competition, Charles City’s Walter Dickerson finished second in the discus with a mark of 95’10”. He also placed third in the shot competition with a heave of 32’8”. Dickerson’s two marks accumulated all 14 points for the Panthers. King William won the boys’ portion with 164 points, followed by Northumberland’s 131 points and King & Queen’s 47 points to finish in the top three. Goal in stoppage times lifts Mechanicsville to win over New Kent

Sometimes the waves of excitement can lift a team to be successful. And sometimes it can come crashing down. And unfortunately for New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ soccer team, those waves washed away in the second half of an Apr. 27 match against the visiting Mechanicsville Lady Mustangs. Two second half goals by Mechanicsville’s Mackenzie Jolie helped the visitors overcome their early deficit as Mechanicsville topped New Kent 3-2, sending the hosts to their fourth consecutive loss. New Kent’s boys’ soccer team have been trying to figure out what type of team they are. On Apr. 25, they received another lesson in working out the kinks to be successful. After hanging tough for the first portion of the game, New Kent fell to the visiting Smithfield Packers 5-1 in Bay Rivers District action. Smithfield jumped out early on the host, receiving goals from Sam Welch and Tamir Melvin. New Kent softball has no issues disposing Bruton’s Lady Panthers

When tight games come up later on the schedule, it’s good to have reliable players to contribute when they can. The Apr. 27 contest for the New Kent Lady Trojans as they hosted the visiting Bruton Lady Panthers allowed that talent to flourish. Behind 15 runs in the bottom of the opening frame, New Kent thumped Bruton 21-1 to keep their undefeated record intact. New Kent came out swinging, capitalizing on Bruton errors. Sometimes it just takes one little spark to get things going. In an Apr. 27 matchup against the Bruton Panthers, New Kent’s Trojans found its way back in the win column with a massive outpouring of run support. New Kent pushed across 10 of the game’s final 12 runs as they secured a 10-4 victory over Bruton.
