The old adage in sport is that it’s hard to beat a team three times in a season. That was the task at hand when the York Lady Falcons hosted New Kent’s Lady Trojans in the Nov. 3 Group 3A Region A semifinals, with a berth on the line to the state tournament. And for most of the night, it looked like New Kent would make that statement come true. Former New Kent player Torres notches 2,000 career assists at Bethany College

Alaina Torres, a 2018 graduate of New Kent High School, reached a milestone playing with the Bethany Lady Bison volleyball team. Torres eclipsed the 2,000 career assists barrier against Grove City in a playoff match victory.

Lamprecht captures gold at 3A Region A cross-country championship meet

New Kent’s Isaac Lamprecht conquered the Bells Mill Park course in Chesapeake as he emerged as the Group 3A Region A cross-country champion during the Nov. 2 meet. Lamprecht ran a time of 16:33.63, more than 30 seconds faster than his next closest competitor as he powered New Kent to a third-place finish and an automatic qualifying berth in the Group 3A State cross-country championships. Will Ashley’s time of 17:53.75 placed him ninth among competitors in the competition. In college sports’ tournaments, sometimes it’s not about the record, but when you are clicking. For New Kent’s Lady Trojans volleyball team, they’ve picked the time to be at the near peak of their game. New Kent coasted to a 25-8, 25-13, 25-13 in a straight set win over the I.C. Norcom Lady Greyhounds in the quarterfinals of the Group 3A Region A tournament, setting up a date with Bay Rivers District rival York for an opportunity to head to the playoffs. After edging Tabb last week on the gridiron, New Kent High School’s football team knows that they don’t want to face a similar situation as last year by letting the computers decide if they qualify for a regional playoff berth. Lamprecht finishes as runner-up at Bay Rivers District championship cross-country meet

New Kent’s Isaac Lamprecht finished as runner-up in the Bay Rivers District Championship cross-country meet held Tuesday afternoon at Jamestown High School. Lamprecht clocked a time of 15:54.66 to earn the silver, finishing behind Grafton’s Connor Linehan. Scorers for the Trojans were Will Ashley (22nd-17:50.70), Ryan Wright (35th-18:18.07), Luke Holloway (42nd-18:46.47), and Luis Macia (45th-18:54.56). Other participants were Logan Rooks (48th-19:08.68) and Brandon Crooms (19:35.63). New Kent’s boys’ team finished in sixth place with a score of 146. After dropping their homecoming contest to Grafton, New Kent’s Trojans find themselves in a position that they prefer not to be in when it comes to playoff positioning, on the outside looking in. And in a Friday night road game at Tabb, things didn’t seem promising for the Trojans. But a miscue by the Tabb Tigers late in the contest resulted in New Kent’s Ashton Whitlow’s late game score that elevated the Trojans to a 14-13 win, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
