Late first half lapse pivotal in New Kent’s season finale loss to Gloucester
New Kent’s boys’ soccer team has talent on their roster. That has never been the question. But the question applies if the team is able to take lessons from Trojans’ Head Coach Derek Yates and apply them to the field. A regular season finale against the Gloucester Dukes provided another tough message that had to be sent to the hosts. Charles City Lady Panthers fail to secure win in season finale against Mathews
Sometimes the biggest victories are those that go beyond the scoreboard. For Charles City High School’s Lady Panthers’ softball team, finishing the season after a six-year absence is a moral one. But not even moral victories could help Charles City as they fell 19-3 to the visiting Mathews Lady Blue Devils in the season finale. The game was more of a teaching moment for the young team. Panthers’ season ends with loss to powerhouse Mathews
After a positive start, Charles City High School’s baseball team fell into a slump once district play began. That slump concluded on May 18 in a home contest against the Mathews Blue Devils. Jumping out with 11 runs in the opening inning, the visiting Blue Devils cruised over the Panthers 20-1, bringing the home team’s season to an end. New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ softball team has kept the excitement since opening day of the Spring 2022 season. They closed the regular season Friday evening with the same energy. If the May 19 Tidewater District track meet was an indication for the future, Charles City’s Lady Panthers Track and Field team could be a threat to competition next year. Behind the performance from juniors Nevaeh Coney, Janiya Washington, and Surayyah Tinsley, the trio of Lady Panthers powered Charles City to a third-place finish overall among seven teams on their home track.
