After snagging early advantage, New Kent Lady Trojans fall to unbeaten Grafton

New Kent’s Lady Trojans got a good look at one of the top teams in the Bay Rivers District on Dec. 16 when the visiting Grafton Lady Clippers entered with an undefeated record. That’s the way the guests exited the facility as well. Grafton overcame a sluggish start before routing New Kent 56-32 to remain unblemished on the year. Early on, the Lady Trojans’ defense stifled the opponents, keeping them scoreless. Meanwhile, Katelyn Norman’s three early points followed by teammate Jaiden McCoy’s score on a roll to the basket off a McKenna Mueller assist provided the hosts a 6-0 lead…

It’s been 10 days since New Kent’s boys’ basketball team took the floor for a contest. But when they suited up for their Dec. 15 matchup against Bay Rivers District foe York, it was a different story than their previous outcome. The visiting York Falcons jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it as they toppled the hosting New Kent Trojans 74-55. York jumped out front the opening tip, quickly orchestrating seven straight points for the early lead. From there, the Falcons began to capitalize off their physical stature. Trojan grapplers take down Lafayette, York in home tri-meet

New Kent High School’s wrestling program accumulated wins Tuesday afternoon over Bay Rivers District foes York and Lafayette in the home tri-meet. New Kent outscored York 62-18 and Lafayette 53-12 to breeze to the win. “It was a great team effort,” said first-year Head Coach John Goodbody. “We have a lot of younger guys in the lineup which was kind of fun. New Kent’s Foster, Hyndshaw earn second team all-state honors in volleyball

Two New Kent High School Lady Trojans have been named to the Group 3A All-State second team in girls’ volleyball. New Kent Senior Clara Foster and New Kent Junior Aubrey Hyndshaw were recognized by the Virginia High School League as selections in a Monday afternoon press release.

New Kent’s Julia Hathaway emerged as a double-event winner at the Christopher Newport University Winter Frolic Indoor Track & Field meet held Dec. 10-11 in Newport News. Hathaway claimed titles in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 34’6½ and captured the girls’ 300-meter dash with a time of 42.56. She also finished as a runner-up in the girls’ long jump (15’8”) and the 55-meter dash (7.47). New Kent High School’s Trojan Wrestling squad swept five opponents on their way to winning their annual Trojan Duals Saturday afternoon. New Kent defeated Atlee (62-18), Hanover (71-6), Varina (72-12) and Orange (66-16) to set up a finals matchup against Landstown. The Trojans continued their success by defeating Landstown 48-33.
