New Kent High School’s gymnasium continues to be a tough place to play for opposing volleyball foes. Tuesday night’s matchup for the Lady Trojans continued that trend. New Kent cruised 25-10, 25-8, 25-13 over the visiting Smithfield Lady Packers, keeping their record at home unblemished for the current season. After a humbling experience knocked New Kent’s Trojans from the ranks of the unbeaten, a home contest Saturday night against the visiting Poquoson Islanders provided an opportunity for the hosts to bounce back with a win. Unfortunately for the Trojans, a commanding start by the visitors proved too much for the hosts to overcome. Warhill shuts out New Kent, knocks Trojans from ranks of unbeaten

A Sept. 16 road trip to take on the Warhill Lions provided New Kent High School’s football team an opportunity to improve on their undefeated record. Unfortunately for the visitors, what started out as a competitive game turned into a runaway by the Lions. Warhill’s combination of an offensive attack and defensive prowess kept the Trojans from finding the scoreboard, leading to a 36-0 shutout in the Bay Rivers District contest. Williams named assistant athletic director for media relations at Bowie State

Jolisa Williams, a 2008 graduate of Charles City High School and former Lady Panther standout, has been named the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations at Bowie State University. Williams spent the previous six years at Shaw University in the same position and will take over for retiring Sports Information Director Gregory Goings. She was named the CIAA Sports Information Director of the Year in 2017 while employed by Shaw University.
