A violent sex offender/career criminal with more than 40 convictions on his record must serve two years of a suspended sentence incurred from a pair of felony convictions in New Kent County. William Donald Poulson Jr., 32, of 320 Bernie Court, Highland Springs, had been on the run from authorities until he was captured last May in Michigan. Poulson was a passenger in a pickup truck stopped for tailgating in Livonia, Mich. on May 4. Testifying before a New Kent Circuit Court judge, motorcyclist Marcel Calvin Brandy insisted he neither saw the state police trooper’s car in pursuit nor heard its siren as he sped along Interstate 64, covering 14 miles with two other bikers at speeds over 130 miles per hour. The judge didn’t believe him. Judge Thomas B. Hoover found Brandy, 29, of 510 Tailgate Terrace in Landover, Md., guilty of one count of eluding police following an Aug. 23 trial. A Rottweiler kennel owner in Charles City, who has continually defied a court order to cease operations, is now serving time in jail. Linda K. Howard must spend 10 days behind bars after being found guilty of contempt in county circuit court. Judge Thomas B. Thanks to an innovative curriculum supplement that uses video to simulate loan interviews, students role-play the job of a lender, analyzing loan applications, reviewing credit reports and calculating disposable income. Colonial Downs’ 40-day, eight week summer thoroughbred racing season came to a close on July 21 as jockey Rosemary Homeister Jr. and trainer Hamilton Smith captured the leading titles in the 14th annual race campaign in New Kent. The competition for leading jockey heated up late in the meet, as Homeister, Horacio Karamanos, and Eric Camacho stood within one win of each other going into the final week. A group of 25 volunteers flexed their muscles and endured the heat to mulch and plant native plants, maintain and mark hunter access trails, and install wood duck boxes on Morris Creek during a “Friends of the Chickahominy Wildlife Management Area” (WMA) kick-off event on June 12 in Charles City.
