Albert “A.J.” Fitzpatrick, a resident of Quinton, has been named to the Bridgewater College Dean’s List for the fall semester. Students on the Dean’s List attained a 3.4 grade point average or better over the 15-week semester period. Fitzpatrick is a sophomore who is majoring in biology.
Vanessa Adkins, a senior at Charles City High School, has been announced as the Eastern Region winner of the Strong Men and Women Essay Contest sponsored by the Library of Virginia and Dominion Virginia Power. Students were required to write an unpublished 400-word essay reflecting on the heroism of one of the 2015 “Strong Men and Women” nominees Sgt. William H. Carney, a Norfolk-born Civil War soldier and first African-American Medal of Honor recipient. Adkins’ essay was chosen as one of four winners in the state. New Kent resident Donald ‘D.J.’ Seeterlin has been promoted by Chesapeake Bank to the position of Chief Information Officer. Seeterlin has been in the field of banking for 14 years and an employee of Chesapeake Bank since 2011. He graduated from the College of William & Mary and completed his graduate studies through the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Virginia Banker’s Association Executive Leadership Institute.
Craig and David Hula of Charles City have been recognized by the National Corn Growers Association as winners of the 2014 National Corn Yield contest during a Dec. 30 announcement. The Hulas are two of seven national recognized winners for growing more than 400 bushels of corn per acre. As winners, the two will receive national recognition in publications and will be honored in Phoeniz, Az., during the 2015 Commodity Classic.
