Having supervised all three candidates for the New Kent Circuit Court Clerk’s position, my endorsement is for Scott McPhail. I am familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of each and think that Scott is the best candidate. The clerk’s office has three distinct areas of responsibility: land records, probate, and court administration. Scott excels with the land records, is the only employee I have had who has taken to probate matters, and meets all needs of court administration that he encounters. Scott has managerial and finance experience, both of which are a necessity for running the office. Scott is not…

I have had the pleasure of working with my county supervisor Ron Stiers on several community concerns. The most recent was an abandoned house down the road from me. It had remained empty and partially burned for quite some time. After speaking with neighbors, we decided it was time to call Ron. I explained to him that this house had become a concern to our neighborhood, not only for the unsightliness, but also because of the possible health hazard. In less than a week after contacting Ron, the house was leveled and the lot cleared. Ron is a man of…

I was the president of Woodhaven Shores Property Owners Association in Oct. 2011 when a tornado ripped through our area. The tornado devastated our neighborhood, blocking roads and turning our lives upside down. A resident of Woodhaven informed me Ron Stiers’ reputation for community service. I called Ron, who wasn’t even a New Kent supervisor at the time, jumped into action and set up “Operation Love Thy Neighbor.” He secured the volunteer services of local, heavy equipment contractors and with the help of local residents and other community groups, we began massive clean-up. We spent 13 weekends bringing things back…

I want to voice my support for Ron Stiers for re-election in the race to the New Kent District 4 Board of Supervisors. Ron has been committed to working with businesses in New Kent to move forward with sustained economic growth in the county. As a small business owner, there have been times I have called upon Ron to help sort through issues that surrounded the expansion of my own facility. He has been an advocate and supporter when I needed a voice. Beyond business, Ron also brings a personal touch to the position. After voicing my concerns about rising…

I am writing this letter to support Donna C. Williams as a candidate for New Kent County treasurer. Donna worked for New Kent approximately nine years. She started in 2007 as deputy treasurer and started classes to achieve the Certified Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer certification. She achieved this through the University of Virginia, Weldon Cooper of Public Service, and the Treasurer’s Association of Virginia. Donna was responsible for daily duties delegated to her in 2008 when Herbert Jones left for active duty assignment. Her commitment was recognized in a letter from New Kent Human Resources that read, “Your commitment to…

I am writing this letter to voice my support for Norma C. Holmes for New Kent County treasurer. I worked for New Kent in the finance department from Nov. 2001-Oct. 2010. Because the finance department and treasurer’s department work closely together, Norma Holmes was one of the first county employees that I met. She has proved to be a valuable resource and a trusted co-worker throughout my career with the county. During that time she ran the office as she did today. New Kent residents are her priority and she expects nothing but the best customer service from herself and…
