Recently, my husband and I were away from our home for an extended period of time. We believed that our home and property were safe because we had requested a “watch order” from New Kent’s Sheriff’s Department. A watch order notifies the sheriff’s department that a homeowner is away from their home and puts an extra eye on the property. This is a wonderful service and provides a tremendous level and feeling of security to the property owner. This service is also available to business owners. After a year of closure, The Blue Heron restaurant on the Chickahominy River in Charles City has reopened. The restaurant has opened under the new ownership of Greg Guy and Carson Diaz of Grub, LLC. Quin Rivers of New Kent is a recipient of funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA).
