New Kent rejoins Richmond Region Tourism

After a one-year hiatus for an evaluation, New Kent County will rejoin Richmond Region Tourism effective July 1. The organization works alongside counties throughout the Richmond area to promote locality’s tourism. “New Kent is a modern and dynamic place to live, work, and play, and the county is the second-fastest growing locality in the state,” said New Kent County Administrator Rodney Hathaway in a press release. “Richmond Region Tourism has always been an important partner for New Kent and we look forward to working with the team again to promote the county’s vast array of attractions.”

Two NKHS grads named to Dean’s List at James Madison University

Derric Bayne, a 2018 graduate of New Kent High School, and Julianna Jones, a 2017 graduate of New Kent High School, were both named to James Madison University’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2019 semester. In order to be named for the honor, a student must be taking at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better.

Wisneski named general manager of Rosie’s Gaming Emporium at Colonial Downs

Stephanie Wisneski has been named as general manager of Rosie’s Gaming Emporium at Colonial Downs in New Kent. Wisneski had worked as the Director of Compliance for the Colonial Downs Group since October 2018. Prior to that position, she worked as the compliance manager for Miami Valley Gaming and Racing in Lebanon Ohio.

Editorial: Graduation speeches prove lessons learned outside of the classroom

Over the past two weeks, I had the honor of attending the 2019 commencement ceremonies for Charles City and New Kent High School. And while I have attended many of these occasions in the past, it was evident that the messages delivered by the valedictorian and salutatorians in each class that the graduates have already experienced real life situations and adulthood. In response to the editorial “Staff and supporters must continue to promote Charles City’s Library” published in the June 9 edition of the Chronicle, I want to offer my reassurance that the library staff will continue to offer programming and materials that are relevant, current, and engaging. The library continues to add new programs and services to evaluate the effectiveness and usage of what we offer at both Heritage Public Library locations.
