In today’s world, negativity and judgment often blinds the heart and makes us forget that we are all human beings. Members of New Kent High School’s Renaissance Leadership Club made sure that an event for exceptional education students received the love they deserved for being true heroes that they are. Approximately 30 special needs students from New Kent, Middlesex, and King William received a fabulous prom Monday afternoon. Editorial: Don’t play the blame game if something doesn’t happen

By Andre Jones | March 12, 2019 8:01 pm

I had an interesting conversation this week with one of my friends about the current generation of children. Unfortunately, I have not been blessed to be a parent as of now, but as conversed with my friend, it’s clear that this generation of offspring is different from when we grew up. What I want people to know is that I am not criticizing anybody’s parenting skills at all. As parents, raise your kids the right way. Raise them to love and cherish others. The point that my friend and I specifically discussed revolved around children participating in activities. We specifically…

Letter to the Editor: Disproves of using convention to select Republican nomination

By Community Member | March 8, 2019 12:20 pm

I was upset when I found out they were choosing the Republican nominee for delegate in the 97th District by convention. This method effectively disenfranchises the elderly and the disabled, many of whom are veterans that fought for our freedom. My displeasure turned to outrage when I found out that one of the candidates possibly had voting authority to force the convention over a primary. If that is not a conflict of interest, no such thing exists. The convention process strips the residents of the district of their voice. Del. Chris Peace has been a strong conservative. His record on…

Editorial: Sending out a thank you for the continuing support

By Andre Jones | March 6, 2019 12:16 pm

This isn’t going to be a long editorial, but I just wanted to reiterate by telling each one of our readers thank you for the continuous support on behalf of our staff. Personally, I want to thank those who have expressed gratitude and appreciation for the articles I have written. I continuously want to put out a product that is informative to all citizens and provide the best information for New Kent and Charles City. I don’t seek the praise, but I am honored to be supporting communities that has supported me for several years and for years to come.

Letter to the Editor: Chris Peace deserves to be reelected

By Community Member | March 5, 2019 10:06 pm

As a resident of the 97th House of Delegates District, I feel compelled to speak up about the current Republican nomination process. Knowing our Delegate Chris Peace since the 2007 election, I can tell you that he has always been a strong, conservative voice for the people of New Kent, King William, and Hanover. Delegate Peace has many legislative accomplishments which further reflect a faithful, public servant who works diligently to get the job done. He stepped up as a leader when New Kent needed to be reopen and when Route 60 needed repaving. When our community was told by…

Editorial: Cherish your time here on Earth

By Robb Johnson | March 5, 2019 9:48 pm

It is important to love your family and most importantly, yourself. We live in a 24-7 news cycle, where everything is so high tech. We barely have time to take heads out of our phones because of the latest email that needs to be answered. Text messaging is a constant thing in our everyday lives. This is all very understandable. However, take some time out with the family members and just put the phones away. There was a time when cell phones didn’t exist and everybody in the family would sit around, talk, and share stories. Some call this “the…

Letter to the Editor: Let’s use common sense, both near and afar

By Community Member | March 4, 2019 9:25 pm

In a recent editorial of the Chronicle, Andre’ Jones stated, “Be smart and use common sense by locking the doors to your house, shed, garage, and cars to prevent theft.” He concluded that it was better to be proactive and prevent a situation than to suffer the consequences. This same advice can be extended to our southern border with Mexico. It is only common sense to have an effective barrier with several designated entry points where border officials can control who and what is coming into our country. This is the proactive and smart way to keep unwanted criminals, gang…
