The Bottom of the Bridge LaSertoma is pleased to announce that the organization will be offering a $2,500 scholarship grant to a New Kent High School senior pursuing a college education. To be eligible for the Scholarship Grant Award, a high school senior can apply for the scholarship grant. The scholarship is based on financial/special needs, transcript of grades, future education, and community work/leadership. The student selected will compete for an additional $1,000 scholarship grant through LaSertoma International. The deadline date for receipt of scholarship applications is May 3. Callie Loveland, a Providence Forge resident, was named to the Dean’s List at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri for the Fall 2018 semester. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.6 or higher while taking at least 14 graded units.
The best way to summarize Charles City’s Board of Supervisors and Charles City’s School Board joint work session on Feb. 20; trying to play catch up when we’re way behind. As I sat and observed dialogue between both boards, it was clear that a passionate and heated debate would be happening soon. Director of Heritage Public Library Chandra McPherson has announced a tentative date for the opening of the Charles City Library and Richard M. Bowman Center for Local History. In a press release, McPherson said the 8,200 square foot building has a tentative dedication ceremony date of Sunday, June 9. McPherson commented that the $3.5 million facility is continuing to move along well despite wet weather. The building is being constructed by David A. Nice Builders and is being funded by public sources, businesses, private foundations, civic groups, native Virginia tribes, religious congregations, and generous individuals.
