It’s budget season again. As schools and governments ramp up their proposals for 2019-20, it is imperative that as citizens we use our voices to speak out on the issues that we want to see addressed. While the counties and school systems have obligations they must fulfill, there will be funds to support what citizens wish to see. Charles City Regional Health Services (CCRHS) is partnering with Virginia’s Department of Health and receiving funds for a new contraceptive initiative that will allow low-income, uninsured women to receive long-acting reversible contraceptives free of charge. The program is open to uninsured women and individuals and they do not have to be health center patients to receive the services. Those who are interested may call the health center at 829-6600.
The New Kent StageHands will hold auditions for upcoming shows in April. Casting calls for “To Burn a Witch” and “The Internet is Distract—OH LOOK A KITTEN!”, both one act plays, will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at New Kent Middle School. Reading material will be provided and a general interest meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 4, 7 p.m. at the middle school. It’s 2019, and people are still tossing trash out their windows onto the roads. This has been an ongoing issue for several years in Charles City and New Kent. But now it seems to be at an all-time part of being downright ridiculous.
