Letter to the Editor: Desires warning lights at railroad crossing in Lanexa

In light of recent train accidents off Rockahock Road, I was going to Walker’s Dam Grill on Valentine’s Day. As I approached the railroad crossing, I looked both ways and noticed lights coming from the east. It was very hard to see how far down the tracks the train was located since it was so dark, so I waited a few minutes. The person behind me got out of his truck and asked me what I was waiting for. My editorial today will be focused on a simple topic that needs to be talked about; using common sense to prevent criminal activity. I decided to choose this topic because of posts and messages issued by New Kent Sheriff’s Office. Recently, there have been a rash of thefts from vehicles in subdivisions in New Kent. Most of these thefts come from vehicles that are unlocked. I understand there are several reasons people leave their vehicle unlock at their home because it’s supposed to be a safe haven. Bayne achieves Dean’s List at James Madison University

Derric Bayne, a 2018 graduate of New Kent High School, was recognized for making the Dean’s List at James Madison University for the Fall 2018 Semester. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled full-time and achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Richart earns Dean’s List honors at Virginia Tech

Hailey Richart, a 2017 graduate of New Kent High School, was named to Virginia Tech’s Dean’s List for the Fall 2018 semester. In order to be named to the list, a student must be taking at least 12 credit hours and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.
