Charles Haupt, former owner of family-owned Charles City store, succumbs

A man that brought pleasure at his family-owned country store to the Charles City community for several years has died. Charles Edward Haupt, 77, of Goochland and formerly of Charles City, died at his home on May 16, 2018. Along with his wife Jeanette, Charles operated the store on John Tyler Memorial Highway beginning in 1976. The store was owned by his parents, George H. and Julia Major Haupt, and his grandparents since 1893. Charles continued to be hands-on in his operations within his store. Editorial: It’s time for Charles City’s school board and county supervisors to sit down and talk

With tension mounting between Charles City’s Board of Supervisors and Charles City’s School Board, it’s time for both boards to sit down and talk. This tension isn’t all negative, but the presence was felt at Tuesday night’s board of supervisors meeting. With speakers voicing concerns about the funds for schools while supervisors explained their viewpoints and stance, there is a line of communication that needs to be re-established. While staff of the Chronicle appreciates being quoted and referenced, county leaders and school leaders must re-engage in face-to-face interaction instead of trading comments through print media. Emmons earns Doctorate from Old Dominion University

Ethan Emmons, a 2008 graduate of New Kent High School, was awarded a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University as part of May 4 commencement exercises. Emmons received his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from James Madison University in 2012. He will be practicing physical therapy at Sentara Hospital in Norfolk.
