Locations have been announced for the 2017 Autumn Pilgrimage House Tour in Charles City. Sponsored by Westover Episcopal Church, some of American’s most historic homes will open their doors for the tour. Five local students were named to John Tyler Community College’s Honor’s List for the Summer 2017 semester. Laurie Burnette and Lena Duke of Charles City, Cecilia Garner and John Sweat of New Kent, and Nina Brundle of Quinton earned the recognition from the college. In order to be named to the Honor’s List, a student must accumulate a grade point average of 3.5 or better and completed at least 24 hours of coursework.
FeedMore, a local food bank that includes Charles City and New Kent, has received a $100,000 donation from BJ’s Wholesale Club. FeedMore’s programs work with more than 300 partner agencies, serving 52,000 meals per day. Charles City and New Kent are two of 34 counties and cities in Central Virginia that will receive a portion of the donation. The donation will be used to increase the capacity to distribute perishable food, purchase storage equipment to keep food cold including refrigerators and freezers, and purchase a refrigerated truck to transport perishable food more safely.
The definition of the word unity is the state of being united or joined as a whole. Jack Weisskohl has been hired as the newest family nurse practitioner for Charles City Regional Health Services (CCRHS). Weisskohl holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and received his Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
