Charles City High School’s Scholastic Bowl team won its first competition of the season on Dec. 1. The team of Antuan Brown, Jesus Carpio, Jason Brown, and Matthew Bartle defeated King & Queen 170-125, marking the team’s first victory in at least six years. Brown was the leading scorer in the contest, accounting for 110 points.
New Kent High School’s culinary arts department is holding its third annual Empty Bowls project. Under the direction of Susan Musselman, the project serves as a fundraiser where students create pottery to sell at a silent auction. Funds raised from the auction will go towards purchasing food for New Kent County’s social services food pantry. In conjunction with the project, a “Chili and Check Nite” will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 6 p.m. in the high school’s culinary arts room.
