New Kent fourth in state 3A Scholastic Bowl

Seeking to add a state title to their conference and region crowns, New Kent’s Scholastic Bowl team took on three other region winners during last Saturday’s 3A state competition held at William & Mary. Unfortunately, their competitors prevailed. New Kent (0-3) lost to Culpeper (1-2), Blacksburg (2-1), and eventual state champion Cave Spring (3-0) to finish fourth in the state. Team members are Nick Parker, Harrison Hunt, Josh Dore, Gunnar Carlson, Vivian Sanchez, Billy John, Reshyra Jadooram, Lauren Barney, Bryanna Underwood, and Elijah Greer. The team is coached by Matt Duckworth.

Donations continue to push Bridging Communities programs to forefront

Donations of money, time, and equipment have become more of a frequency for Bridging Communities Career and Technical Center since its opening in 2012. One such donation from Lennox Industries looks to push the school’s HVAC program to the forefront of advancement. New Kent Envirothon returns Apr. 22

After a one year hiatus, the New Kent Envirothon will return on Saturday, Apr. 22. In conjunction with the New Kent Virginia Cooperative Extension Office, New Kent Clean County Committee, Alliance of Wild Animal Rehabilitators and Educators (AWARE), and Virginia Farm Bureau, the event will have a variety of activities as the event coincides with Earth Day. Activities include educational demonstrations, live animal demonstrations by AWARE rehabilitators, and a variety of booths with tips and tricks for helping the environment.
