Letter to the Editor: Takes White House to task on embassy attack

By Community Member | October 18, 2012 2:45 pm

I cannot believe that any government would send an ambassador to a volatile area with no protection. Christopher Stevens and three brave Americans were tortured and brutally murdered a few weeks ago. When this administration got the news about the four Americans being killed, they immediately concocted a story blaming a video rather than admitting that a terrorist attack had occurred on the president’s watch. The morning after the attack, the Libyan president told the White House that the attack on the U.S. Embassy was a planned attack by terrorists. The White House immediately put out a statement delivered by…

Letter to the Editor: Urges voter support for amendment

By Community Member | October 18, 2012 2:45 pm

With the election just three weeks away, almost all of the media attention is being given to the presidential, senate, and congressional races in Virginia. Those are critical to determining the future direction of the country but there is more on the ballot than those races and more is at stake. Virginia voters will vote on an important constitutional amendment dealing with private property rights. The November ballot will contain a proposed amendment to Section 11 of Article 1 of the Constitution of Virginia. This amendment will ensure that your land cannot be taken and given to another private owner,…

Letter to the Editor: Asks why EMS in CC not delivered as promised

By Community Member | October 3, 2012 4:38 pm

I write to ask why Charles City residents do not have the 24-hour paid EMS promised by the Board of Supervisors when it passed its budget last April. I am 82 years old. During the past year I fell and broke several ribs. When 911 was called I was told no ambulance was available and I would have to get to the hospital on my own despite being unstable on my feet and in extreme pain. I suppose if I were suffering chest pain for another reason I would have been given the same response. One quarter of the fiscal…

Letter to the Editor: Urges Animal Control change in Charles City

By Community Member | October 3, 2012 4:37 pm

I read with interest the article in the Chronicle about the animal adoption committee that was voted down and our rate of animal euthanization. Of more interest, I would like to know when Charles City is going to step up to the plate and integrate Animal Control into the sheriff’s department like most localities have already done. Look at New Kent, James City, Hanover, and Henrico. They have already done this. More police protection is always a priority in Charles City, and it only makes sense to have another trained deputy along with part-time persons in Animal Control patrolling the…
