The Benjamin Harrison Bridge that connects Charles City and Prince George County will once again close overnight starting next week. Beginning Monday, Jan. 30, the bridge will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning. The closures will last until Saturday, Feb. 4. The bridge over West Run creek on Wayside Road in Charles City will be closed for a week for bridge rail repair work. A pair of sisters who graduated from New Kent High School as part of the Class of 2022 earned academic accolades at their respective colleges for the Fall 2022 semester. Lauren Vick was named to the President’s List at Longwood University. To be recognized for the accolade, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 4.0 while taking at least 12 credit hours. Lucy Vick was named to the Dean’s List at Christopher Newport University. A student must be enrolled as a full-time student while accumulating a minimal grade-point average of 3.5 to be named to the list.
Taryn Bonsky, a resident of New Kent, as named to the Dean’s List at York College of Pennsylvania for the Fall 2022 semester. In order to be recognized for the accomplishment, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while taking at least 12 academic credit hours.
Two local Providence Forge residents were named to the Dean’s List at Bridgewater College for the Fall 2022 semester. McKenna Mueller and Luke Tomajczyk were recognized by the school for their academic accolades. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher while enrolled at the college full-time.

William Walters of Lanexa, Carrol Smart of New Kent, and Steven Pennington of Providence Forge were recognized for their academic accolades. In order to be named to the President’s List, a student must be taking at least 12 credits and earn a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher.
Elena Gutierrez, a native of Providence Forge, was initiated into the Virginia Military Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society during a Nov. 22 ceremony. In order to be inducted into the society, a student must be in at least their second year of college, be in the top 35 percent of their class, and demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five following principles of collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, scholarship, and service to their college or university.
Charles City County’s Circuit Court has been awarded a grant for the preservation of local records. The grant, in the amount of $17,107.50, will be used to digitize Land Book 1867, 1869-1874, Land Book 1921-24, Reassessment of Lands 1900, 1905, 1910, 1915, 1920, and 1925. “We’re very excited,” commented Victoria Cox-Washington, Circuit Court Clerk of Charles City County. “These records are the history of our county! We have an obligation to make sure that they are available for future generations.” The documents and books will be stored in the court’s offices.
