Woman using sister’s ID accepts plea deal in New Kent Circuit Court

A Hampton woman who used her sister’s identification at a traffic stop has entered Alford pleas of guilt (stipulating while she maintains her innocence, evidence presented would be enough to convict her) as part of a plea deal during afternoon proceedings on Monday in New Kent Circuit Court. Laura Lee Carter, 33, of 17 Woodsman Road, entered guilty pleas to one count each of forgery of a public document, false identification (second offense), perjury, misdemeanor reckless driving, and misdemeanor driving suspended. Georgia man arrested for using stolen credit cards in New Kent

A Georgia man has been charged by New Kent Sheriff’s Office for using stolen credit cards to make cigarette purchases in Quinton. Joseph M. Davis, 32, of Augusta, Georgia, was arrested on eight counts of credit card fraud stemming from alleged illegal activities conducted on Oct. 9. According to the police report, New Kent Sheriff’s Office worked jointly with Henrico County Police to investigate a rash of stolen credit cards. Davis, identified as one of the suspects, was allegedly involved with the use of stolen credit card numbers to purchase cartons of cigarettes from local convenience stores in Quinton. New…

New Kent woman killed in King William crash

A New Kent woman was killed in a two-car vehicle Saturday afternoon in King William. Wanda M. Brown, 53, died at a local hospital from injuries sustained in the Oct. 17 accident. According to the police report, shortly before 3:30 p.m., a 2010 Toyota Camry was traveling west on Route 360 (Richmond-Tappahannock Turnpike) near Route 30 (King William Road) when it struck a 2006 Nissan Altima in the rear. Debate for New Kent sheriff highlights candidate forum

Citizens of New Kent got an opportunity to hear viewpoints of candidates vying for offices during a Oct. 15 debate at New Kent Middle School hosted by the New Kent Republican Committee. Delays in VDOT projects frustrate New Kent supervisor

At least one New Kent supervisor is frustrated with delayed Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) projects. And he let VDOT representatives know about it once again during the Oct. 13 regular scheduled meeting of the county’s board of supervisors. District 1 representative Thomas Evelyn admitted he was trying to hold back his anger and displeasure over two projects that have been scheduled to take place within his district. New Kent subdivision residents concerned about location of duck blinds

Residents of one New Kent subdivision are raising concerns over one property owner’s duck hunting blinds that they feel are too close to their neighborhood. Homeowners in The Colonies subdivision in Lanexa addressed New Kent supervisors during the board’s Oct. 13 regular monthly meeting on their fears surrounding recently placed duck blinds on adjacent property. Duck blinds are hunting accessories that provide cover for hunters to help reduce the chance of detection while hunting water fowl. Lane closures for repair projects to occupy Interstate 64 overnight hours

There will be two Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) projects in New Kent in the upcoming week. –There will be alternating lane closures on Oct. 12-15, 10 p.m.-5 a.m. on Interstate 64 eastbound between mile markers 208-209 for ITS equipment installation. –The right lane both east and westbound on Interstate 64 at Bottoms Bridge (mile marker 205) will be closed on Oct. 13-14 from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. for maintenance of the weight in motion scales.

Charles City schools post high graduation rate, zero percent drop-out

Information released by Virginia’s Department of Education (VDOE) reveal that Charles City High School has one of the highest on-time graduation rates in the state. The on-time graduation rate is monitored by the state and tracks the number of students who enter into their freshman year and graduate in four years. Charles City posted a 98.25 percent for on-time graduation, easily surpassing the state mark of 90.5 percent. Charles City public schools is also one of three jurisdictions in the state to post a drop-out rate of zero percent. Data released indicate that only Falls Church City schools and King…
