Two men who allegedly robbed a home in New Kent have been arrested by New Kent Sheriff’s Office. Jason B. Dunlow, 19, and Gregory R. Wilhelm, 46, both of Aylett, were both charged with one count each of grand larceny and intent to sell stolen property. Wilhelm received an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to the arrest report, on July 14 of this year a residence off Tunstall Road was burglarized with items stolen that included firearms. Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced paving projects for the upcoming week in New Kent for Oct. 4-8 on Interstate 64 eastbound. –From mile markers 209-224, there will be alternating lane closures from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. for paving. –The exit ramp from Route 33 (Eltham Road) to Interstate 64 east (at mile marker 220) will be closed from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. for paving. A detour will be in place to direct traffic.
Another hurdle has been cleared in a long process to build a public park in the central area of New Kent. During their Sept. 30 work session, county supervisors unanimously approved a “master plan” that details potential park features once the facility, dubbed Pine Fork Park, is completed. A new option is now on the table for New Kent County supervisors to consider as a permanent home for Heritage Public Library — the empty building in the Maidstone development at New Kent Courthouse that once housed a Colonial Virginia Bank branch. Developer John Adamson, who purchased Maidstone in 2013, delivered a preliminary proposal for converting the 5,000 square-foot building into a library during supervisors’ Sept. 30 work session. A Providence Forge resident who allegedly purchased an all-terrain vehicle without permission from a former employer has been arrested. Erin M. Bierwirth, 33, of the 6700 block of Halstead Lane, was arrested on Sept. 22 on two counts of forgery, and one count each of felony embezzlement, obtaining money by false pretenses, and identity theft. According to the police report, Bierworth worked for Ronald Marshburn and allegedly purchased an ATV valued over $20,000, signing documents without Marshburn’s permission.
