Suspect in chase that left officers injured among Charles City indictments
Three people, including a man who led Charles City officers on a high-speed chase that resulted in injuries to two officers, were among those indicted by a grand jury during Tuesday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. Andrew Leroy Williams, 34, of the 7000 block of Church Lane, Charles City, was indicted on one count each of felony eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, unauthorized use of a vehicle, misdemeanor driving suspended, and misdemeanor reckless driving. Paving to close on and off ramps overnight on Interstate 64 in New Kent Sept. 8-9
Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be paving entrance and exit ramps on Interstate 64 eastbound next week during overnight hours. The on and off ramp at exit 214 (Providence Forge/Route 155-Courthouse Road) will be closed on Sept. 8-9, 7 p.m.-6 a.m. for VDOT to attend to the maintenance issues. A detour will direct eastbound motorists who planned to use exit 214 to take exit 211 (Talleysville) to Route 106 North (Emmaus Church Road). Expansion of business kicks off turnaround for Maidstone Development in New Kent

CC supervisors award fiber contract, turn focus to potential library costs
Charles City supervisors unanimously approved the awarding of a dark fiber installation contract during its Sept. 2 quarterly work session. While the name of the winning bidder has not been announced, county administrator Zach Trogdon said the supervisors will enter into a labor contract of $302,216.64. Williamsburg man to serve no active time after plea deal in New Kent
A Williamsburg man will serve no active time in jail after accepting a plea agreement in New Kent Circuit Court. Austin Curtis Peterson, 21, of the 3900 block of Penzance Place, entered guilty pleas to two counts each of misdemeanor tampering with a vehicle and misdemeanor petty larceny. Seven counts of credit card larency, six counts of tampering with a vehicle, three counts of grand larceny, and one count of misdemeanor petty larceny were dropped. Visitors fighting at Henrico Jail East arrested
Two people who were at Henrico Jail East visiting an inmate have been arrested for allegedly getting involved in a physical altercation with each other. Lorena M. Patiller, 24, of the 1100 block of St. John Street, Apt. A, Richmond, and Keiontae S. Pickett, 20, of the 200 block of W. Charity Street, Apt. C, Richmond, were arrested on Aug. 29 at the jail located in New Kent. According to the arrest report, the two were visiting an inmate when they became involved in a physical altercation. A Charles City man who impersonated a police officer will serve a minimum mandatory sentence of two years in jail after accepting a plea deal during Aug. 28 proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. Charles City supervisors approve change to real estate tax year
Charles City supervisors unanimously approved a change that will align the fiscal year with the real estate tax year starting in FY2016-17. County leaders voted Tuesday night for the amendment change after no one spoke at a public hearing. Supervisors had received complaints from citizens in the past about the June 5 tax date for the county. That date fell outside the realm of the July 1-June 30 fiscal year, causing difficulty for citizens filing taxes.
