Chesterfield car accident claims life of New Kent woman
A New Kent woman was killed during a Saturday night accident in Chesterfield. Shaniqua Brown, 23, died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on June 20. According to the police report, Brown was a passenger in a Mercury Mountaineer traveling westbound on Hull Street before the vehicle veered off the road, striking a tree. Brown was transported to a hospital where she later died. Brown attended and graduated from Charles City High School. The driver of the vehicle remains in serious condition with life-threatening injuries, while a second passenger was transported with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
CC leaders agree to exploration of land for possible electrical facility
Charles City’s Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to allow a company to examine 88 acres of county-owned land to potentially bring an electrical facility to the area. During a June 11 public hearing, supervisors authorized an 18-month no-cost option to be granted to NE Land Development LLC. According to county administrator Zach Trogdon, the buyer is planning to develop a combined-cycle electrical megawatt generation facility that utilizes natural gas. Right eastbound lane on Interstate 64 in New Kent to close overnight for paving
Several overnight paving projects will close the right eastbound lane on Interstate 64 in New Kent from June 14-18. –June 14, 10 p.m.-6 a.m., from mile marker 215-218. –June 15, 7 p.m.-6 a.m., from mile marker 217-220. –June 16, 7 p.m.-6 a.m., from mile marker 220-224. –June 17, 7 p.m.-6 a.m., from mile marker 208-211. –June 18, 7 p.m.-6 a.m. from mile marker 211-215. Minor delays are expected, with motorists encouraged to use alternative routes if necessary.

New Kent High School Class of 2015 Valedictorian- Robin Thady
Robin Grace Thady posted a grade-point average of 4.4867 as valedictorian for New Kent High School’s Class of 2015. She was a member of BETA and was a founding member and creator of Chesapeake Bay’s Governor School’s first yearbook. Robin will be attending the College of William & Mary and purse her studies in the field of science. She is the daughter of Steven and Debbie Thady.
New Kent High School Class of 2015 Salutatorian- David Bushhouse
David Zachary Bushhouse is salutatorian of New Kent High School’s Class of 2015 with a grade-point average of 4.4767. He was a member of the theater club, quiz bowl team, and has also served as public address announcer for New Kent High School’s baseball games. David plans to attend Hampden-Sydney College to pursue a degree and double-major in biology and English. He is the son of Steven and Jennifer Bushhouse.
