A four-way race in Charles City for county sheriff and a three-way tangle for clerk of the Circuit Court in New Kent highlight local races for the November 2015 election. Burrell chooses not to seek 7th term to New Kent board of supervisors
James “Jimmy” Burrell, the District 3 supervisor of New Kent County, has announced that he will not seek re-election and will end his tenure on the county’s board of supervisors at the conclusion of the year. A proposed set of regulations aimed at governing the appearance of development along the main arterial highways (New Kent Highway and Pocahontas Trail) in the Bottoms Bridge area of New Kent has been tabled for a vote by county supervisors. Monday evening’s decision after a public hearing comes as no surprise as the discussion on the overlay district to bring aesthetic and visual character to the land, public health, safety, and welfare has been discussed since last August. New Jersey man accepts plea deal to cocaine possession in New Kent Circuit Court
In what New Kent Commonwealth’s Attorney Linwood Gregory deemed as an unusual case, a New Jersey man accepted a plea deal in Monday morning New Kent Circuit Court proceedings for possession of cocaine, despite not being in Virginia at the time of the offense. Alfonzo Williams Jr. 38, of the 200 block of Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, entered an Alford Plea of guilty to an amended charge of possession of cocaine (originally distribution of cocaine). Three arrested by New Kent Sheriff’s Office
New Kent Sheriff’s Office has arrested three individuals involved in separate incidents related to possible felony activity in the county. –Ernest Franklin Flannagan III, 38, of the 900 block of Dispatch Road, Quinton, on one count of assault and battery on a family or household member. The offense allegedly occurred on June 6. New Kent deputies transferred him to Henrico Jail East after the incident. –John Steven Michael, 39, of the 8900 block of Ellyson Trace, Quinton, on one count of distribution of cocaine.
