Four arrested over the weekend in New Kent
Two Gloucester men have been arrested in connection to incidents occurring at Rockahock Campground in the Lanexa area of New Kent. Braedon Rosell, 19, of the 6500 block of Kimberly Drive, and Jacob Allen, 18, of the 6600 block of Hickory Knoll Road, each were arrested on one count each of grand larceny and destruction of property. According to the arrest report, New Kent Sheriff’s Office responded to the campground after receiving complaints of thefts and vandalisms. Twelve New Kent teens arrested in South Carolina for alleged alcohol possession
Twelve of 17 Virginia teenagers arrested this weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in connection with underage drinking are from New Kent County. According to the Horry County Sheriff’s Department, each teen has been charged with one count of alcoholic beverages purchase, consumption, or possession by a minor. Colonial Heights man pleads guilty to firearm possession
A Colonial Heights man entered a guilty plea during June 20 proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. Dallas James Anthony, 23, of the 2700 block of Tipton Street, received a guilty conviction on one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (within the last 10 years). In a summary of evidence, last Jan. 12 conservation officer John Goodwin received notification of shots being heard from the firing range after hours. New Kent Sheriff’s Office investigating home invasion
What is being labeled a home invasion in the Lanexa area is under investigation by the New Kent Sheriff’s Office. A June 19 press release from Sheriff F.W. “Wakie” Howard Jr. says just before 3 p.m. last Tuesday afternoon (June 17), a homeowner on Rockahock Road called 911 to indicate that she had returned home to find a male there, bleeding from his head. When deputies arrived, it was determined that the home invasion included an alleged aggravated assault. Charles City school board adopts $9.7 million budget for FY2014-15
Charles City’s school board adopted a $9.7 million budget for the FY2014-15 school year at its June 17 meeting. Representatives took action on the figure, voting 4-1 in favor of the budget. New Kent Sheriff’s Office, school board forewarns of dangerous app
New Kent Sheriff’s Office and New Kent public schools are warning parents and guardians about a dangerous phone/tablet app that may reveal specific information about their child and location. Superintendent of schools Rick Richardson released a letter during the June 16 work session on the downloadable app “Streetchat.” The free app can be downloaded on any device, but there are serious risks. DMV Select to open June 23 in New Kent
Virginia’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will open a pilot DMV Select inside of New Kent County’s Administration Building on June 23. Working with the Commissioner of Revenue, the DMV select will allow customers to conduct vehicle-related transactions without having to leave the county. Lanexa man arrested for alleged assualt, burglary
A Lanexa man is now in custody after allegedly causing a domestic disturbance at a Providence Forge restaurant. Charles Edward Laxton III, 33, of the 1000 block of West Riverside Drive, was arrested on June 9 after an incident at Patsy’s Diner. According to the arrest report, witnesses said Laxton allegedly entered the building without permission and assaulted an employee. When authorities arrived, he was not at the scene. Warrants were obtained for Laxton’s arrest. He is charged with one count each of burglary (in the daytime) and assault. He was taken into custody and was being held without bond.
