Plea agreement rejected by judge in felony eluding case
An attempt at a plea deal during New Kent Circuit Court Monday morning turned sour for one Richmond man. Joseph Junior Boyd, 44, of 1505 Tree Ridge Road, accepted a proposed deal to plead guilty to one count of felony eluding police, driving as a habitual offender, misdemeanor hit and run, and misdemeanor reckless driving, with a misdemeanor count of reckless driving and destruction of property dropped. Intoxicated driver agrees to prison sentence in plea deal
A Richmond man will now serve a little over three years in prison after a car accident injured his brother. Rodney Wayne Jones Sr., 56, 2816 Mouldlin Street, accepted a plea deal from Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Tyler during Charles City Circuit Court proceedings on Sept. 3. Jones pled guilty to one felony count of DUI maiming, and misdemeanor counts of DUI (first offense), driving on a revoked license, and providing false information to a police officer. Charles City’s Home Depot Roxbury location held its “Giving Back and Building Strong Relationships “ program sponsored by Home Depot Interiors (HDI) manufacturing facility and Cypress/Hermitage Enterprises, that provides opportunities for intellectually challenged residents of Henrico, Charles City, and New Kent. HDI and Cypress recently invited some of the workers to tour the plant to see just how what they do helps. Father and son team indicted in Charles City Circuit Court
A father and son duo received formal indictments during Sept. 3 Charles City Circuit Court proceedings. David Yates Sr., 44, and David Yates Jr., 22, both of 4503 Rocking Horse Lane, Charles City, received multiple indictments from a Charles City grand jury. Both men were charged with one count of grand larceny, burglary, and misdemeanor destruction of property stemming from a Jan. 6 incident where police witnessed the duo breaking into the Dominion Power substation on Chambers Road. More money removed from schools by CC supervisors
Apparently a $20,000 message from Charles City’s Board of Supervisors wasn’t stern enough for the Charles City school system. Supervisors elected to remove $86,150 from the schools during its Sept. 4 work session. In total, more than $100,000 has been removed from the schools 2013-14 budget. NK sheriff’s office arrests CC man A Charles City man has been arrested after allegedly shoplifting from a business in Providence Forge. New Kent Sheriff’s Office arrested John Alvin Brown, 44, of 8531 Old Elam Cemetery Road, Charles City, on one count of felony shoplifting (third of subsequent offense). According to the police report, on Aug. 21, Brown entered Family Dollar in Providence Forge. VDEM training conducted in New Kent
Virginia’s Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) held a 24-hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course at Brickshire in Providence Forge Sept. 3-5. The CERT program is a federally funded citizen preparedness and response training course administered through VDEM, supporting almost 80 localities and institutions of higher education across the state. The original concept was developed by Los Angeles County fire personnel in the mid-1960’s to train citizens to be more prepared in times of disaster. New Kent test scores above state average, CC vows to improve
Charles City and New Kent County schools recently received results from its Standard of Learning (SOL) testing. While Charles City school board members vowed for changes to improve scores, New Kent administration received pleasant surprises when results were released on Aug. 20. Despite a difficulty increase in English and science during this year’s testing, New Kent schools minimized a drop-off in scores, fairing significantly better than a majority of the state. Bottoms Bridge McDonald’s robbed at gunpoint
New Kent Sheriff’s office has reported that the McDonald’s restaurant at Bottoms Bridge was burglarized this morning (Aug. 26). In a brief press release, shortly after 3 a.m., two masked suspects entered the facility with firearms. The two suspects took an undisclosed amount of money. There were no reported injuries during the robbery. The intersection of Route 60 and Route 249 closed for several hours for investigation.
