Bike race hit-and-run truck driver indicted in CC Court
A Virginia Beach truck driver has been identified and charged with felony hit and run and misdemeanor reckless driving resulting in injury to two bicyclists during a May 11 road race. Carlton Percell Crawford, 52, of 2107 Pier Point Place, received the indictments at Charles City Circuit Court during Tuesday morning proceedings. According to a police report, shortly after 11:30 a.m. on May 11, state police responded to the hit and run motor vehicle crash on Route 106, approximately one mile south of Old Union Road. Fire grant may bring regional training facility to New Kent
Summer weather brings dry ground and potential for fires in homes and forests. Now, New Kent fire chief Rick Opett’s proposal of a training facility may benefit the county and surrounding areas. Opett appeared before supervisors June 26 and received approval to apply for a Virginia Department of Fire Programs Burn Building Grant. The grant would provide funding for construction, labor, and design of a burn building that is used to train firefighter candidates. A discombobulated timeline of events along with adamant testimony from a victim played key factors in convicting a 19-year old man of firearm larceny. Myles Konrad Beverly, of 9410 Boulevard Road, Providence Forge, received the guilty verdict during June 24 proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. After testimony from officers familiar with the case, background from the victim, David Lee Sharpe, painted a scenario of events. Four suspects arrested in NK New Kent County Sheriff’s Office has arrested several individuals and charged them with multiple felony allegations: Roland David Grzymala II, 36, of 3390 Vaidens Ct., Lanexa, is charged with one count each of forcible sodomy, abduction, aggravated sexual battery, and carnal knowledge of a child under the age of 13. With recent occurrences in schools such as the incidents in Newtown, Conn. school safety concerns have escalated to an all-time high. Thanks to a grant approved by Gov. Bob McDonnell, two local schools can rest a little bit easier. Sentence of 100 days given to jewelry thief in plea deal
A man will serve 100 days in jail after accepting a plea agreement during New Kent Circuit Court proceedings on June 10 after stealing jewelry from a New Kent residence. Corky Lee Hendricks, 32, of 703 Adams Road, Science Hill, Kentucky, pled guilty to one count of grand larceny and one count of breaking and entering into the home of Jeri-Douglas Thornton and Eric John Thornton on March 31 of last year. Supervisors defer truck stop decision, focus on schools
At the request of Wilco-Hess LLC, New Kent’s Board of Supervisors at its June 10 meeting deferred action on a conditional use permit (CUP) for the company’s proposed Route 106 truck stop. After a public hearing on May 13, supervisors elected to defer action while parties involved in the proposed developmental area rendered solutions to a possible increase in traffic.
