Charles City town hall addresses concerns about bike rides, races
With a number of bike rides and races making their way through Charles City County, concern has been raised on citizens regarding traffic conditions and the amount of money the jurisdiction is taking in as a whole. A July 18 town hall meeting held by county supervisors provided a forum to hear from concerned constituents. Nearly 60 people back the auditorium during the informative meeting. New Kent Planning Commission creates definition of tactical combat facility; recommends prohibited land use
In 2018, Curtis Security Group put together a proposal to construct a tactical combat range in the Barhamsville area of New Kent. After residents fought and forced the permit to be withdrawn, ongoing discussion has led to New Kent’s Planning Commission to develop a definition of the tactical combat facility and now have sent a recommendation for it to be a part of prohibited land uses. Charles City school board passes vote to issue RFP for solar array project
After putting a halt on a solar array project at its June 18 monthly meeting, Charles City’s School Board will seek an RFP (request for proposal) of the project after Tuesday night’s meeting. Board members voted 3-2 to issue the RFP after a lengthy discussion on the issue. The RFP will allow the school board to receive bids on the project if it is to be executed. Bedford man admits guilt to attempting to sell cocaine
A Bedford man entered a guilty plea to possessing cocaine with intent to distribute it during Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Tyler Steven Bell, 27, of the 5400 block of Forest Road, entered a straight guilty plea to the charge as part of a bench trial. A dozen indicted on drug charges in unrelated cases by New Kent grand jury
A dozen people who accumulated drug charges in unrelated incidents were part of indictments certified by a grand jury Monday morning in New Kent Circuit Court: –Christopher Thomas Batkins, 26, of the 3600 block of Hopewell Road, New Kent, on one count each of possession of a gun by a nonviolent felon and possession of a weapon (not gun) by a felon. Two women charged with 25 counts of animal cruelty in New Kent
New Kent deputies seized more than 30 animals from a property on Courthouse Road in Providence Forge on July 9 after receiving an anonymous complaint. Charges were field against Amy H. Bonnett, 61, of the 9100 block of Derbyshire Road, Richmond, and Cody Jean Porter, 32, of 8 N. Rose Avenue, Henrico in relation to the alleged incident. West Point man charged with burglary in Eltham
A West Point man was arrested and charged with six crimes stemming from a July 9 alleged burglary. Isaac Alim Newman, 32, of the 8000 block of Point Lookout Road, was arrested by New Kent Sheriff’s Office on charges of burglary, assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, assault and battery, obstruction of justice, possession of a concealed weapon, and public intoxication. Two indicted by Charles City grand jury
Two individuals were indicted by a grand jury during Tuesday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court: –Jillian Ledford Barry, 28, of the 19000 block of Lander Bridge Road, Ruther Glen, on a single count of grand larceny. The defendant allegedly stole a horse belonging to Jenna Lee Eddy on Nov. 15, 2018. –Jesse Ann White, 34, of the 11000 block of Roxbury Road, Charles City, on a single count of possession of a schedule I/II drug. The defendant allegedly had a pill containing an illegal substance on Apr. 11.
West Point men receive time for drug deal executed in New Kent
Two West Point men who were involved in a drug exchange have entered guilty pleas to different charges as part of plea deals reached Monday in New Kent Circuit Court. James Warren Dixon, 34, of the 100 block of Bellwood Street, West Point, and Roger Charles Eveland, 28, of the 800 block of Kentwood Drive, both made their pleas stemming from an Oct. 4, 2018 incident.
