Lady Trojans use barrage of three-pointers to dismantle Charles City
A Saturday night contest between New Kent’s Lady Trojans and Charles City Lady Panthers saw a modest crowd fill the gymnasium. What those in attendance didn’t expect was to see how the visiting Lady Trojans dominated from behind the arc. New Kent drained 10 three-pointers, scoring more points with the long-distance connections than Charles City totaled in the contest as the Lady Trojans coasted to a 65-27 win. In battle of runs, Mathews uses final one to upend Charles City
In a game of ping pong, fast-paced action back-and-forth eventually leads to one person having momentum before their opponent takes back that control. In Friday night’s basketball contest between Charles City and Mathews, it was the visitors who capitalized from the final swing to take the win. Closing out the game on a 17-3 run, Mathews used the final run to defeat Charles City 83-69 in the Tidewater District opener for both teams. New Kent High School’s wrestling team posted a perfect 5-0 record at its Trojan Duals held on Dec. 1 inside the gymnasium. New Kent’s Lady Trojans home opener faired a lot better than their first contest, thanks to a breakout performance from Bailee Hellebrant.
