The battle of the Lady Trojans in soccer action quickly turned into a one-sided affair for the hosts. New Kent’s offense shouldered the load by scoring six goals, snapping a three-game skid and defeating visiting Essex 6-0. New Kent held advantages over the one-win visitors on the pitch. New Kent’s Michael Gatling emerged as a double event winner in the boys’ long and triple jump while teammate Will Tolley won the pole vault competition as the Trojans emerged as the winner of the May 9 Bay Rivers District 10-team home meet. New Kent scored 125 points to finish in first place. Grafton (114) and Tabb (106.5) finished in second and third, respectively. Gatling leaped 20’7” in the long jump, beating out teammate C.J. However, a matchup against a struggling York Lady Falcons team who have lost seven out of eight games didn’t go in favor for the hosts. The visiting Packers wasted no time scoring goals against the homestanding Trojans.
