Brandon’s seven RBIs propels New Kent to crushing victory over Bruton

By Robb Johnson | March 16, 2018 11:16 pm

Sometimes the best way to bounce back from a tough loss is with a statement performance. Apparently New Kent’s Lamont Brandon got that message loud and clear. Brandon accounted for seven RBIs as the Trojans trounced Bruton 22-2 in the Bay Rivers opening contest for both squads Friday afternoon. Brandon’s bunt in the first advanced teammate Jacob Rivera around the bases. Bruton errors coupled with a couple of Brandon steals provided a 2-0 lead for New Kent. Later in the inning, Ty Boyette added two more RBIs, driving in Nick Sorenson and Riggs Ellis. Chris Wade stole home to up…

By Robb Johnson | March 16, 2018 12:36 am

New Kent’s Lady Trojans entered their Mar. 14 home opening looking to topple a Colonial Heights team that swept them last season. Employing a strategy to hold the ball and keep it on their side of the field proved to be a winning formula for the home team. Second half goals by New Kent’s Grace Lysek and Haley Brady provided breathing room as the hosts prevailed 3-1 in the home opener for the Lady Trojans. Lady Trojan Taylor Clements provided the lone score in the first half, providing a 1-0 cushion for the hosts heading into halftime. As action picked…

Charles City drops opener to Peninsula Catholic in clash at Harrison Park

By Robb Johnson | March 16, 2018 12:01 am

Opening day for Charles City’s Panthers’ baseball team had a little bit of a different feel as they played at the well-known Harrison Park, a venue that hosted many contests in the 1980s and early 1990s. However, errors and the inability to communicate on the field destroyed a promising early start as the hosts fell 20-8 in the season opening contest. Christian Stewart’s nervousness was evident, as the Panther pitcher yielded four early walks and two runs. Charles City head coach Irving Bradby elected to…
