B.C. LaPrade, a 2015 graduate of New Kent High School and standout wrestler, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) wrestler of the week for Nov. 14-21. LaPrade, wrestling at 157 pounds for Virginia Tech, scored a decision victory over Dylan Forzani from the University of Chattanooga and followed that with an victory over Central Michigan’s Colin Heffernan, who was ranked 13th in the country. LaPrade completed his high school career as a two-time Group 3A state champion, winning in the 138-pound and 145-pound weight divisions.

New Kent’s boys cross-country team finished in tenth place while the Lady Trojan team earned 11th place at the Group 3A State Cross-Country championships held at Great Meadow course on Nov. 11. New Kent’s boys accumulated 236 points to earn the top ten finish. The Lady Trojans scored 291 points. Patrick Johnson was the top Trojan runner, running a time of 16:55 at the event to finish in 25th place. With nothing to lose, Charles City looked to close out the football season with a win during a Nov. 3 contest against visiting West Point on Senior Night. However, injuries and mental mistakes plagued the Panthers once again. New Kent’s boys’ cross-country team came home as 3A Regional Champions after conquering Bells Mill Park on Nov. 1. New Kent accumulated 42 points, edging out Bay Rivers District rival Tabb’s 48 to win the event. Another district rival, York, earned the bronze with a score of 64. A Nov. 1 regional volleyball quarterfinal matchup pitted New Kent’s Lady Trojans against the Tabb Lady Tigers, a team they swept 3-0 in two matches this year.
