The phrase “one trick pony” probably doesn’t apply to Chincoteague’s Caroline Thornton. But to Charles City’s Lady Panthers, it was more than a statement. Thornton scored 24 points and orchestrated several other baskets for teammates the visiting Chincoteague Lady Ponies cruised to a 56-28 victory over Charles City in the Dec. 18 clash. Trying to erase an unimpressive performance a few days earlier, New Kent’s Lady Trojans locked horns with the visiting Lafayette Lady Rams in a Dec. 14 matchup. It’s rare when New Kent Lady Trojans come into a contest as the favorite. That’s what happened Tuesday night when they welcomed the visiting Grafton Lady Clippers on Dec. 12.
