As a standout athlete during the late 1990s, Charles City native Terrell Brooks admitted that he didn’t know his true potential coming out of high school. But nearly two decades later and a wealth of knowledge, Brooks is looking to pass his life lessons to up-and-coming student athletes by offering sporting services that not many kids in his hometown have access to. The Brooks Basketball Academy started out as a one-week camp experience in 2015 through Charles City Parks and Recreation. Charles City boys fourth, girls fifth in Tidewater District meet

Charles City’s boys’ track and field team accumulated 59 points, good enough for a fourth-place finish during the May 4 Tidewater District home meet. Panther senior Troy Crawley emerged as the lone event winner for the host school, claiming the boys’ 100-meter dash with a time of 11.63. Middlesex boys’ won the meet with 170.5 points, with Mathews (110.5), and West Point (101) also finishing ahead of the Panthers. After spotting Colonial Heights a two-goal lead in the first half, New Kent’s Lady Trojans got back in Thursday night’s soccer match thanks to an early second half penalty kick. Despite absorbing a 12-0, five-inning shutout in their first meeting, New Kent appeared on the way to avenging the one-sided defeat in Wednesday’s softball rematch. For most of the first half, Charles City’s Panthers garnered numerous breaks due to errant shooting by the visiting Carver Academy Wolverines.
