A 4-0 loss to Tabb in their regular season home finale could pay some benefits for New Kent’s Lady Trojans as they enter post-season soccer play. Panthers win three events, finish fourth in Conference 42 championships

Charles City’s Royal Washington and Mason Jefferson emerged as individual winners while the boys’ 4×100 meter relay team also claimed top billing as the Panthers finished fourth in the Conference 42 Track & Field Championships on May 18. Washington heaved the shot put 40’8”, claiming first in the field event. Jefferson cruised to a season best time of 11.55 in the 100-meter dash, finishing as one of four Panthers to qualify in the regional event. New Kent track teams dominate on way to clinching Conference 25 track crowns

Buoyed by strong performances in the field events, New Kent teams raced away from the competition to capture the boys’ and girls’ titles in Wednesday’s 3A Conference 25 championships on their home facilities. The Lady Trojans amassed 148 points to easily outdistance runner-up Warhill’s 96. Poquoson took third with 69 followed by Southampton (68), Park View (65), and Colonial Heights (7). West Point’s Pointers scored within the first two minutes of the contest en route to a dozen goals in dismantling host Charles City 12-0 during the May 17 Senior Night clash. Jolisa Williams, a former standout basketball player for Charles City High School, was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Sports Information Director of the Year. Williams received the John Holley Award during a May 16 reception. She is employed by Shaw University in North Carolina and was acknowledged for her communication skills, promotion of athletic programs, use of social media platforms, relaunching a new athletics webpage, and navigating game day procedures and duties.
