New Kent’s Lady Trojan field hockey team had its moments Saturday morning while taking on Warhill’s visiting Lions in a makeup contest. Charles City fumbles away opportunity for upset win on homecoming night against King William
Fighting off the injury bug and fatigue from a contest at Colonial Beach four days earlier, Charles City’s Panthers clashed with visiting King William in an Oct. 9 homecoming battle. And with the hosts trailing by a mere nine points heading into the final quarter, it appeared that victory was a possibility for the Panthers. New Kent shocks Jamestown 28-27 on last second touchdown off blocked field goal
New Kent’s C.J. Reeders blocked a Jamestown extra point placement following an Eagle touchdown just before halftime of Friday night’s football contest. Then with the host Eagles lined up for a field goal that would create an insurmountable 10-point margin with 28 seconds remaining, the freshman defensive back struck again. Bursting through the middle of the Eagle offensive line, Reeders leaped to block a 40-yard field goal attempt off the toe of Jamestown kicker Carter Weissenfluh. Fellow defensive back R.J. A perfect example was hosting the number one, Group 1A team in the state Mathews’ Lady Blue Devils in a Oct. 8 contest. Pinpoint serving accuracy helped New Kent’s Lady Trojans take control of and eventually finish off Tabb’s visiting Tigers in the teams’ Tuesday evening volleyball encounter. West Point serves way to victory over Lady Panthers
A flat start combined with the inability to return serves were downfalls in Charles City Lady Panthers loss to visiting West Point Tuesday night. The Lady Pointers posted scores of 25-8, 25-8, and 25-12 to take the Tidewater District contest. Not helping the hosts was a flat start at the beginning of the match. Allen registers 1,000th volleyball kill
Karley Allen, a junior outside hitter for UVA-Wise volleyball and former New Kent standout, registered her 1,000 kill in a 3-1 win on Oct. 2 at West Liberty University. Allen became the fourth Cavalier to reach the mark and now holds 1,007 career kills. Allen has propelled UVA-Wise to a 7-7 overall record and a 3-0 start in Mountain East Conference play.
Trojan golf team conquers course, wins 3A East Regional title
The New Kent Trojan golf team continues to rack up the hardware. The Trojans shot a 312 at Shenandoah Golf Club to bring home the 3A East Regional Title on Oct. 1. The team fought off the elements to outdistance runner-up Warhill by 15 strokes. Robb Kinder finished second overall, posting a round of 75 while teammates Cole Baldwin (76-3rd), and Parker Wallace (77-6th) were hot on his heels to finish in the top 10. In convincing fashion, New Kent’s Lady Trojans subdued Lafayette’s visiting Rams in Tuesday night volleyball, rolling to a 25-15, 25-17, 25-14 victory.
