Charles City Lady Panther head coach VaShaun Otey said he expected the visiting Southampton Lady Indians to make a run during the game. Inexperience factor looms large in Lady Trojan season opening loss

New Kent’s Lady Trojan basketball roster lists 10 members, but only one boasts significant playing time on the varsity level. That lack of experience weighed heavily on Tuesday night’s outcome as the Lady Trojans hosted York’s Falcons in the season opener for both. Allen named All-Atlantic region in volleyball

UVA-Wise sophomore outside hitter Karley Allen, a former standout at New Kent High School, has been named to the Daktronics Atlantic Region volleyball first team. An All-Mountain East Conference first team selection, she led the conference in kills with 394, averaging 4.19 kills per set. She also averaged 3.71 digs per set for a conference sixth best. Allen’s kills per set average led the Atlantic Region and ranked 13th nationally. She is the only non-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference player to make the region first team. Carlin finishes 4th at Group 3A state cross-country meet

New Kent’s Andrew Carlin ran a time of 16:08 to garner a fourth-place finish in the group 3A state championships at the Great Meadows course in The Plains. Carlin’s time was the second fastest for individuals competing without a team at the Nov. 14 meet. His performance is an improvement of a seventh-place finish in the 3A East Regional championships and his time was faster than his 17:02 he accumulated at the Conference 25 championships.

Eagles running attack soars over Panthers

When the 1A East Regional playoff brackets were released, Charles City’s Panthers drew a favorable matchup as a 14-seed against a struggling 3-seed Washington & Lee Eagles.
