Savage continues to improve at GMU

Austin Savage, a 2013 graduate of New Kent High School and former member of the cross-country and track teams, continues to progress in his collegiate career in the aforementioned sports. A sophomore at George Mason University, Savage heads into his sophomore season of indoor track and field. Last year, he participated in both the indoor and outdoor sport, earning a college medal as a member of the 4×800 relay team at the A-10 championships. Allen named to Mountain East Conference 1st team

Karley Allen, a sophomore at the University of Virginia-Wise, and 2013 graduate of New Kent High School, has been named as a member of the 1st Team all-Mountain East Conference in volleyball for the 2014 season. Allen led the conference in kills (394) and finished seventh in the league in digs per set averaging 3.71. Her efforts helped the Cavaliers to a .500 record for the first time since 2007. Momentum shift carries Panthers over Pointers, into playoffs

When Charles City running back Jaquane Wyatt plunged into the end zone at the conclusion of the first half to put the visiting Panthers ahead 14-13 against the home-standing West Point Pointers, Panthers head coach Steward Greene said that his team played the best two seconds they have all year. If those two seconds made Greene happy, then the following 12 minutes in the third quarter made him ecstatic. Overtime appeared to be a certainty. New Kent’s Carlin finishes 7th in 3A East Regional cross-country

New Kent’s Andrew Carlin posted a career best time of 15:49 to earn a seventh place finish at the 3A East Regional cross-country championships held Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Memorial High School. The junior finished second at the Conference 25 championships and was the lone runner for the Trojans at the regional meet. His seventh place finish earned him a spot to participate in the 3A cross-country state championships on Nov. 14 at the Great Meadow course in The Plains.

New Kent Lady Trojans land three on all-conference field hockey team

Three New Kent Lady Trojans have been named to the Colonial Rivers All-Conference 25 field hockey team in voting conducted by the conference’s coaches. Senior midfielder Clare Morris has been selected for the first team while senior forward Caitlin McCaughan and junior defender Torun Carlson have been tabbed for the second team. All three have been named to the conference’s all-academic team, which requires a 3.0 or higher grade-point average. Senior midfielder Brittany LaPrade and junior goalie Megan Bland received honorable mention.
