An inspired effort in front of a large, enthusiastic homecoming crowd placed New Kent’s Trojans within reach of a shocking football upset over Poquoson’s highly touted Islanders. The hosts matched the visitors blow-for-blow in Friday night’s first half, forging a 7-7 tie at intermission. A pair of potential Trojan touchdown drives in the second half, however, went for naught. Bruton corners instrumental in 6-0 win over New Kent

Taking advantage of corner situations, Bruton’s Panthers dominated in Wednesday’s field hockey match with New Kent’s Lady Trojans, never allowing the hosts to get off a shot in gaining a 6-0 win. The Panthers benefited from 21 corners, scoring four goals. Williams named sports information director at Richard Bland

A former standout athlete from Charles City High School has been named sports information director at Richard Bland Community College. Jolisa Williams, a 2008 graduate of Charles City, was named to the position on Oct. 13. She becomes the second sports information director for a college that reestablished its athletic program in 2013. It wasn’t the rain that stopped Charles City’s Panthers when they visited King William on Oct. 10 in the Tidewater District opener for both; it was Camajae Peatross. Peatross accounted for all five touchdowns for the host Cavaliers as they topped the visiting Panthers 35-0. King William wasted no time displaying their high-power offense, driving down the field on their opening possession. Wallace qualifies for state golf, New Kent fourth in region

New Kent’s Parker Wallace qualified for the Group 3A state golf tournament by carding a 77 on the par 72 Brickshire Golf Club course during the 3A region tournament held Oct. 6-7. He placed 11th overall among individual competitors. Wallace led New Kent to a fourth place finish in the team standings. The top four Trojan golfers totaled 324 strokes. New Kent Falcons honor 1989 team, win homecoming games

New Kent’s Falcons posted victories in all four contests and honored the 1989 MYFL Junior Championship during last Saturday’s homecoming festivities against the visiting Tri-Rivers Titans. The Falcons honored the championship team on its 25th anniversary as part of the homecoming ceremonies. That team was coached by Gil Bowman Sr., Chris Vincent Sr., Jamie Brown, and Wade Berry.
