Several members of Charles City High School’s Fall sports teams were recognized with all-district accolades in the Tidewater District. In football, Senior Mitchell Whitehead was selected as a First Team member at the position of defensive back. He also received the nod as a Second Team member at the position of wide receiver. New Kent High School Senior Riley Whelan has been named to the Class 3A State Competition Cheerleading First Team. Whelan was recognized as part of a Nov. 17 press release sent out from the Virginia High School League. Whelan helped lead New Kent’s Lady Trojans to a Group 3A Region A Championship for the first time in school history, and a sixth-place finish in the Group 3A State Championship competition. Two other New Kent cheerleaders earned all-state accolades. Senior Dana Douglas and Junior BriNiya Glenn were recognized as members of the Group 3A State Competition Cheerleading Second Team.
New Kent High School’s Isaac Lamprecht captured the silver medal in the Group 3A State cross-country championships held at Green Hill Park Saturday afternoon. Lamprecht orchestrated a time of 15:42.83 to finished as runner-up in the event. As a team, New Kent earned an 11th place finish at the championship competition. Other scorers were William Ashley (35th- 17:21.41), Luke Holloway (91st- 19:05.26), Ryan Wright (93rd- 19:11.26), and Brandon Crooms (95th- 19:23.34). Alaina Torres, a 2018 graduate of New Kent High School, reached a milestone playing with the Bethany Lady Bison volleyball team. Torres eclipsed the 2,000 career assists barrier against Grove City in a playoff match victory.
New Kent’s Isaac Lamprecht conquered the Bells Mill Park course in Chesapeake as he emerged as the Group 3A Region A cross-country champion during the Nov. 2 meet. Lamprecht ran a time of 16:33.63, more than 30 seconds faster than his next closest competitor as he powered New Kent to a third-place finish and an automatic qualifying berth in the Group 3A State cross-country championships.
